Isolations and sign-on

An isolation cuts off an energy source so work is safe. People sign on to an active permit with their own lock, and sign off when they leave.

Before you start

  • Energy sources are recorded on the equipment page. Each has a type (Electrical, Hydraulic, Pneumatic, Mechanical, Thermal, Chemical, Gravity, or Other), an isolation point, an isolation method, and a verification method.
  • Isolating and releasing need maintenance.workorders.execute or maintenance.permits.manage.

Isolate and prove dead

The Isolations panel has one row for each active energy source. A chip shows Not isolated, Isolated, not verified, or Proved dead. A defence install says Proved dead and Prove dead. A commercial install says Zero-energy verified and Verify zero energy.

  1. Click Isolate on a source.
  2. Enter Lock number (optional) and Tag number (optional), up to 40 characters each.
  3. Click Record the isolation.
  4. Click Prove dead. The page shows the check to do, for example "Try to start it and test it is dead before confirming."
  5. Add a note if you wish (up to 500 characters). Click Confirm: proved dead.

Isolations can be recorded from draft through suspended. An active permit keeps its isolations. Suspend it or mark the work done first.

If the equipment has no active energy sources, a lockout shows "This equipment has no active energy sources. Add them on the equipment page: a lockout cannot go live without them." Other permit types show "No energy sources recorded on this equipment, so no isolation is needed."

Sign on

  1. Open the active permit. "Signing on opens once the permit is active."
  2. Under sign-ons enter Lock number (optional), up to 40 characters. It is the number on your personal lock.
  3. Click Sign on.

The page then says "You are signed on since TIME · lock NUMBER." Managers can sign others off.

Sign off

Click Sign off and remove my lock when you leave. Everyone must sign off before work is marked done, and before any isolation is released.

Release

After work is done, or when the permit expires, click Release on each isolation. Released isolations show collapsed.
