Create and release an order

Before you start

You need build.orders.plan at the place. Without it the page says "You cannot create production orders: Ask an administrator for the planner role at your place." The item must be a make item with released BOM and routing revisions. An item set to buy shows "This item is set to buy, not make. Change its make setting under Engineering first."

Steps: create

  1. Open Production orders and click New production order. The page says "Pick what to make, how many and when. The order starts as a draft; nothing is reserved until it is released."
  2. Click Choose item and pick the item to make. Only make items appear.
  3. Enter the Quantity. It must be above zero.
  4. Choose the Due date. The order is due at the end of that day.
  5. Choose Made at, the place.
  6. Optional: choose the Receiving area. Only storable areas at the place are listed, not archived, quarantine, or line-side areas.
  7. Choose the Priority: Low, Medium (default), High, or Urgent.
  8. For a customer order, choose the Customer and enter the Customer reference. A defence install says Customer unit and Tasking reference. Leave both empty for stock. A reference needs a customer.
  9. Optional: choose the BOM and Routing revision. The default is the item's default. Only released revisions appear. Add a Note for the floor (optional).
  10. Click Create draft order.

The page opens the order. Its status is Draft.

Steps: plan and release

  1. Edit the order if needed. In Draft or Planned click Edit. You can change quantity, due date, priority, customer reference, receiving area, and note. Save shows "Saved."
  2. Click Mark as planned. The page shows "Planned."
  3. To split the order, click Split order. Enter the quantities separated by commas. They must add up to the order quantity. The page shows "Split into NUMBERS."
  4. Read the Clear to build panel. It shows Material, Machines, People, and Quality, each OK or "Not clear", with the reasons and fixes. Click Check again after you fix something.
  5. Click Release. If the order is not clear to build the dialog says "Release anyway?" and lists the failures. Enter Why release anyway and click Release anyway.

The page shows "NUMBER released." or "NUMBER released with an override."

What release does

Release freezes the BOM and routing revisions, creates the operations and material lines, sends one part request to the store, and reserves stock.
