Material planning

Material planning (MRP) shows what to make, buy, or move so that orders and safety stock are covered, with the reason for each. Proposals wait in the review queue until someone acc

Before you start

You need build.orders.plan to run it. Without it the page says "Material planning has not run at this place."

Steps

  1. Open Production, then Material planning.
  2. Choose the Place and the Run. Each run reads "TIME · manual or nightly · status".
  3. Click Run material planning to start a new run. It also runs every night. If one is active the page says "A run is already in progress for this place. Wait for it to finish."
  4. Read the run header: status, who started it, "Looks ahead N days", and the counts.
  5. On Proposals (n) read each proposal: Make, Buy, or Transfer, with the item, quantity, start, and needed date. Click Show pegging to see what the need comes from. The status links to the draft in the review queue.
  6. On Exceptions (n) read each one: expedite, postpone, cancel, or past due. It shows the item, the order link, the due date, a suggested date, and a message.

Accept or reject proposals in the review queue. Accepting creates a draft production order, a purchase request, or a transfer request.

Rules and limits

  • Nothing happens without approval.
  • A newer run replaces proposals nobody decided.
  • An empty page says "No runs yet: Run material planning to see what needs making, buying, or moving."
  • Settings control the look-ahead horizon, whether the Logistics forecast counts as demand, and whether orders hold automatically when material is short. See Settings.
